In this week’s At Home with Flowers Free Video on uBloom- I’m creating a super easy arrangement- using Zinnias- and Maidenhair Fern. This arrangement is Simple- and it’s Long lasting – and it just takes a few of favorite tips to create!
I’m using a Wooden Box that was created by my Dad: Mel Schwanke from the old greenhouse benches in our families greenhouse. Dad made this a very long time ago- he’s been gone for many years- and the greenhouses are gone now too… so it’s definitely a treasure keepsake.
I’m not sure what my dad used to measure this box- because interestingly enough- it holds a block of foam perfectly- and the other day I took it with me to Michaels- and found these lovely little square glass votives- 4 of them fit perfectly in this box… they are the same height- and it’s a perfect “LINER” for this hand made box.
That’s trick number 1- use a glass vase to line any container that is not water proof… Trick number 2- is placing a few stems of Maidenhair Fern into the vases that are filled with Flower Food Water- I use Chrysal Professional Three- and CVBn Tablets- for the water- I mix it in a Liter container- so it’s accurately measured and easy to pour into these 4 little square glass containers… That tip #3- the Maidenhair Fern is cut short and angled to the side- so it forms a bit of a structure – in the vases that will aid me in placing the Zinnia Flowers… I always say- Foliage First- to provide the structure for my arrangements!
Tip #4… cut those Zinnias Short… so that they fit neatly in the square glass vases- tucked neatly into the wooden box- this allows them sit on the edge of the glass- and also to support one another- I use a mixture of colors to make it look real gardeny! The Zinnias will last longer- because they are supported… and you can simply move them aside to check the water- and add more with the liter bottle… BE SURE TO CHECK THE WATER DAILY- Zinnias can be heavy drinkers- and you don’t want them run out of water…
A Fun little arrangement like this can last a week – 10 days or even longer… with fresh cut Zinnias and Flower Food Water- you’re setting yourself with LOADS of Success… I hope you enjoy this fun – and EASY arrangement- and these simple tips that ensure long lasting flowers- and lots of Joy! Enjoy!
