This week on At Home with Flowers- I’m arranging in the garden and creating some bouquets that inspired by an Episode of “J Schwanke’s Life in Bloom” – Episode #711 Honeycomb Blooms- you can watch this Episode Here NOW!
With a dedication to Honeycomb- we feature many things- including Vintage Honeycomb Paper Decorations, A Wonderful Flower Farm on the North Shore of Hawaii- Two Bees Protea Farm…And even talk about Honeycomb as a garnish to a Honeycomb Cocktail- see the recipe here!
So we obviously needed some Honeycomb inspired arrangements for this episode… and the #FlowerCocktailHour- and more… so I had these Lovely Honeycomb Pillar Candles- that I was able to display in some Gold Honeycomb gilded chimneys from Accent Décor!
I chose 4 gold plated mint julep glasses – for the vases for these flowers… these are small vases- and one of the biggest challenges is arranging flowers- loose in short vases- they have a tendency to fall out because larger flowers (like Dahlias) can be top heavy.
This type of situation- is the perfect opportunity to bind the little bouquets with Craft Covered Wire (also known as Bind Wire- from Oasis Floral Products – you can purchase Bind Wire here!
By arranging the flowers in my hand… and creating a nice tight bundle with the flowers- I can band them together with the Bind Wire- and then cut them short… the support of the bind wire- holds the bouquet together- and creates a more durable and weighted central vertical axis- for the smaller bouquet- putting all the weight of the stems together- it helps create a bouquet- that has a dependable structure- and makes it set steadfast in the vase.
It's also important to measure your bouquet so that the flowers rest gently on the edge of the vase- and the stems aren’t so long that they make it top heavy… so measuring is key- and you’ll see me do it 4 times in this video- one for each vase to ensure stability!
I used Chrysal Professional 3- in the water for these vases- and that will ensure that these flower not only LAST… but that the flowers will open fully- bloom size will be bigger- color will be more saturated- and foliage will remain green… Chrysal Professional 3 is my Favorite Flower Food- and it’s a perfect solution for at home flower arrangers… you can buy it here!
This is a simple project- and provides 4 charming little bouquets that can be used as a centerpiece- in a tablescape or dotted all around the house! Enjoy this Honeycomb Garden Flower Project!
