Today on At Home with Flowers- I’m creating an Arrangement of Southern Magnolia- in a vase… the first trick- is that these are Permanent Flowers- or silk Flowers- created by the Faux Flower Experts at www.WinwardSilks.com – and sent to me by my flower friend Raymond. Winward Silks has long been the premiere Permanent Botanical Resource- in the flower industry- with the most realistic flowers- that include incredible detail. This is part of their claim to fame… and it historically leads back to an incredible designer- Matt Wood AIFD- that was their on staff flower designer for many years. This collection of Magnolias was one of the first line of permanent flowers Matt created for Winward- and it has definitely stood the test of time. There are so many different types of flowers- in this collection… from Wide Open blooms- to half open blooms, buds, cones and even blooms that are in their final stages of life… All of this detail was made possible in the design stages for this line of flowers- and why- Magnolia Grandiflora from Winward is so popular today.
I talk about the different stages of the flowers- and how they are created- and why they look so realistic in this video- and you’ll be amazed at the detail.
The Second trick- is arranging these lovely permanent stems in a glass vase with no flower foam- or mechanic… instead I’m using a technique that was taught to me by Matt Wood… where I arrange the flowers in my hand- and then use the permanent stems to wrap and hold the flowers into place- so it gives me a decorative support system- that can be seen through the glass- and also allows the freedom to keep the stems their original length… thus allowing me to use them over and over again in different vases… it’s an investment in the future- of my flower arranging with permanent Flowers… This arrangement is featured in J Schwanke’s Life in Bloom Episode #709- Flowers for Now and Later- as the Featured flower… Check it out! I hope you enjoy this fun lesson about the details that Winward Silks puts into their permanent flowers- and this fun way to construct a bouquet of permanent stems for a glass vase- in this week’s At Home with Flowers Video on uBloom! Enjoy
